Spill Clean-up Procedure

- The medical laboratory technologist conducts their professional practice according to established protocols, HHS Department MLT Diploma Safety Manual, CSMLS Safety Guidelines and existing legislations.
Supplies
- Kim towels
- Diluted bleach
- Forceps
Instructions
Read the list of required equipment and supplies and the procedural steps. Follow the procedural steps in the exact order.
- Put on gloves and eye protection
- Assemble equipment and supplies
- Cover spill with a Kim towel
- In a circular motion working from the outside in, soak the paper towel with bleach.
- Label paper towel with the time of the next step and the number one with a circle around it.
- After the 30 minutes is up, remove the paper towel with forceps and discard in biohazard bucket.
- Repeat 1-4 and label paper towel with #2.
- When time is up remove paper towel with forceps, discard in biohazard buck.
- Proceed with regular clean up and discard paper towel in regular garbage.
