This book is based on a 2009 print book by the authors that was called Digital Photography for Print and published by the Printing Industries of America (PIA) Press.

The authors realize that graphic communications management has expanded to include a multitude of media in addition to print, especially the web and apps. Thus we decided to revise the original book with a more inclusive title.

The purpose of this course is to provide a project-based visual arts program, which guides students to achieve the standards in the visual arts and career technical training, by providing students with the technical instruction and practical experiences for aspiring video and film makers in the production of film, video, and new media projects for business and entertainment. Students experience both the creative and technical aspects of filmmaking in conjunction with learning about historical and contemporary traditions and conventions.

Documentary Photography and Photojournalism: Still Images of a World in Motion Photography & Visual Perception / CC BY-NC-SA

This online class introduces students to the basic materials, terms and methods of digital photography. Students will be introduced to the digital camera, including camera settings and controls, but can also work with any photographing device. This is a hands-on class and students will photograph subjects indoors and outdoors, upload, edit, and print image files.

Lessons

Introduction to Sound for Film and Video / CC BY

This lesson will teach the students the various audio elements within film. Students will watch videos, see examples of Foley, and discuss the various categories of sound. Using either free web-based sound files, recording them live, or using audio files from within a specific software program – students will add audio files to a (silent) video clip to create a finished edit with sound.

Post Production Audio – Advanced Digital Video Production PBL Project / CC BY

Part of the Advanced Video Production – CTE Online Model

Students will be introduced to advance audio production techniques, including foley, ADR and ambience. Students will develop and design a 3-5 minute film in which all audio will be produced after the production has been filmed. Students who excel in this project will be exposed to careers in the industry such as foley artist, ADR editor/mixer and sound designers. Approximately 5 – 6 weeks
