6.5 Service Sinks
Below are two examples of service sinks, note that Figure 1 the faucet is connected to the backsplash of the sink while Figure 2 the faucet is wall mounted. Both sinks below are equipped with P trap standards.
The P trap standard Figure 3 and the S trap standard Figure 3 are available in 2” and 3” and are equipped with a cleanout plug and strainer.
The S trap standard Figure 3 will create a syphonic action when the sink is emptied similar to a water closet. The service sink is designed with a flat bottom so that after the sink has emptied and the syphonic action has stopped, the remaining water slowly drains into the trap replenishing the trap seal. The S trap will be less likely to become plugged with mop strings and dirt because of the syphonic action.
The wall brackets help support the service sink but are mostly there to keep the sink against the wall. The P or S standards support the weight of the fixture and water.
