Classroom Expectations
Attendance
Attendance to all classes is imperative in the Practical Nursing program at NSCC. During class, learners can expect to learn and apply theory that will later be applied in the skills lab and in the clinical setting. Practical Nursing learners are responsible to report all absences from class to their faculty as per industry standards.
Dress Classroom
- Casual dress for class
- Scent free policy will apply
Electronic Devices
All electronic devices such as cell phones/Smart Phones/laptops, tablets, etc. are to be turned off during class time, including labs, unless required for learning/educational purposes and are prohibited during tests and exams unless specifically approved by faculty.
Assignments
Late Submissions
Assessments and evaluations are to be handed in on or before the specified due date.
- Late submissions may not be accepted after assignments have been corrected and returned to other learners. We appreciate circumstances that arise from time to time that may prevent the learner from completing an assessment or evaluation.
- Should the learner be unable to complete an assessment or evaluation it is the learner’s responsibility to speak with your faculty prior to the due date about your options and to negotiate a new due date. Responsibility for work missed due to absence rests with the learner.
- Failure to complete the program or course requirements stated at the outset of the program may result in a failing grade.
- Please refer to the NSCC Academic Performance Policy.
Faculty will communicate requirements for assignments which may include:
- All course assignments will be given a due date.
- In consultation with their Academic Chair, deductions may be applied to late assignments.
- Assignment must be typed: double spaced using 12 to 14 pt. font using 8.5” x 11” paper.
- APA formatting guidelines are to be followed when submitting written work

Academic Integrity and Use of Generative AI
Academic Integrity and use of Generative AI is governed by the Academic Integrity Policy. In the School of Health and Human Services, Practical Nursing Program breaches in the Academic Integrity Policy may result in academic action that is determined by the Academic Chair.
Faculty will communicate the framework for acceptable academic practice in their course, including guidance about Generative AI, use of citations and guidelines (e.g., APA 7th). This guidance may vary from assignment to assignment but will be provided to students in writing. These written instructions will form the guidelines for determining if an Academic Integrity policy breach has occurred.
