Advising
NSCC advisors support and guide you throughout your studies. Student Services Advisors help you to make the most of your learning experience, make plans for the future and connect you with other important services and supports like tutoring, accessibility services, counselling and wellness services and more.
What Advisors Do
Advising can help you:
- Understand program requirements and relevant policies, guidelines, and regulations
- Set clear, realistic, and achievable goals in line with your education and career interests
- Identify strategies and resources to help you develop learning and professional skills
- Problem-solve life and school situations that may be impacting your learning at NSCC
- Get involved in student life activities to build valuable employment, social and leadership skills
- Access key learning supports such as academic accommodations and other programs (e.g. tutoring)
- Make informed plans about paying for school and identify possible sources of funding

Your role in advising
Advising is a partnership between you and the advising team. Here’s how you can make the most of advising services:
- Be an active participant. Reach out early and be prepared for an advising meeting.
- Advisors offer guidance. You are responsible to take action.
- Connect with advisors on your successes as well as for help solving problems.
- Take charge of your learning. Ask questions and be open minded.
