70 “Oscar F” Case Study Exercise

This exercise is to enhance testing and work performed in the student labs. Exercises are not compulsory but students are encouraged to complete them and then request an answer key from the instructor to keep on track with their learning. If students find they are having difficulty with any exercise, they should request additional help from the instructor.

  1. Quickly observe the reaction pattern of this antibody. Can you “guess” what the antibody might be?
  2. Now do the exclusions. What is the “most probable” antibody?
  3. Using the rules of exclusion which antibody (ies) have not been ruled out?
  4. Is the patient likely to have these antibodies?
  5. How do we refer to these antibodies that have not been completely ruled out?
  6. How can we rule them out?
  7. After we have ruled out all possible antibodies, how do we confirm the probability of the existing antibody?
