73 Elution Student Questions

This exercise is to enhance testing and work performed in the student labs. Exercises are not compulsory but students are encouraged to complete them and then request an answer key from the instructor to keep on track with their learning. If students find they are having difficulty with any exercise they should request additional help from the instructor.

Major Purpose: To give students experience performing an elution and investigating HDN.

  1. What is the purpose of doing an elution?
  2. What is the principle of an elution?
  3. With the Elu-Kit II, what is the purpose of adding phosphate buffer?
  4. Why is the last wash tested when performing an elution and what is the required result?
  5. If mother and child are ABO-incompatible (e.g., mother is group O and child is group A): How can ABO-HDN be eliminated as a co-existing cause of HDN (besides the anti-D)?
