38 Searching TV Transcripts with the Internet Archive

The Internet Archive, is building a digital library of Internet sites and other cultural artifacts in digital form. In 2009, the Internet Archive made selected U.S. television news broadcasts searchable by captions in their TV News Archive. This service allows researchers and the public to use television as a citable and shareable reference.

For example, a search for Canada’s Prime Minister Trudeau and US President Donald Trump contains clips from various news organizations showing the two leaders together or one of the leaders mentioning the other at a news conference. The site provides many ways to filter content – program, creator, year, topic, etc.  There are also several ways to sort the results. Another good tool to have in your fact-checking toolbox.
