An adjective is a word that describes a noun, or a pronoun.

The well-dressed lady is sitting in the Chinese restaurant at the third table.

  • well-dressed – describes the noun lady
  • Chinese – describes the noun restaurant
  • third – describes the noun table

He is a smart and nice man.

  • smart – describes the pronoun he
  • nice – describes the pronoun he
