Running Maintenance

  • Shutdown (go through SOP but do NOT actually click OK.
  • Click Cancel and pretend it was done as it takes 45 minutes to complete)
  • The DxH 600 allows you to program the length of time the instrument is in Shutdown.
  • The default time is 30 minutes.
  • This is the minimum time required for Shutdown.
  • You may increase the time to up to 24 hours.
  • At the end of your programmed time, the system removes DxH Cleaner and replaces it with DxH Diluent. It then awaits a Daily Checks cycle, performed manually or automatically.

Maintenance Steps

  1.  From the daily checks screen select the shutdown button to display the Manual shutdown dialog box.
  2. Select the Perform Startup after Shutdown check box to automatically begin Daily Checks after shutdown is completed.
  3. Type a number in the Time in Cleaner Hours and minutes check boxes to determine the time in cleaner.
    • Once the shutdown cycle is complete, a countdown timer bar appears at the bottom of the Daily checks screen to let you know how much time remains for the cleaning.
  4. Select ‘OK’ to begin Shutdown or Cancel to exit.

Startup

  1. Daily checks will be automatically done when the instrument completes its shutdown process.
  2. Select the Daily Checks alert status icon.
  3. Look at the Daily Checks alert status icon.
    • If it is neutral (grey), all is well. If it is red, then something failed and needs review.
    • When there is any result that fails, you need to acknowledge the value to return the status colour to neutral to be able to run the instrument.
  4. Look at each Daily Checks tab, beginning with the Summary tab.
  5. If any Background result fails, run Daily Checks again.
  6. Verify your background results when the Daily Checks cycle finishes.
  7. To repeat the Daily Checks, click the Daily Checks alert status icon, then click Daily Checks on the bottom left menu.
  8. A DxH 800 dialog box displays the following: Are you sure you want to start a Daily Checks procedure?
    • Press “OK” to continue.
  9. This cycle takes approximately 4.5 minutes.
  10. If the Daily Checks fail for a second time another shutdown may be needed.
    • For learning in lab and proceeding with the startup/QC/Patient over-ride the daily checks my clicking REVIEW and then OK.
    • In the hospital setting you will never proceed with QC if the daily checks fail.

Empty the instrument waste

  • Liquid waste is located under the bench behind the analyzer.
  • Carefully remove the cap and place in on the alternate waste container.
  • Carefully carry the waste container to the ‘dirty’ sink.
  • Turn on the water and slowly pour it down the sink.
    • Let the water run for a few minutes to help flush the waste properly.
  • Return the empty container to the shelf.

Dust Instrument and check for any debris/obstructions

Check/Change Supplies

  1. Click the Supplies Icon from the Alert Status Icons.
  2. Check that each supply is at >10% and change any that are <10%.
  3. Check the Use Before date to ensure no supplies will expire that day. Change any that will expire.
  4. The hand-held Bar-Code scanner allows you to automatically upload DxH Supply information from the Setup Supplies dialog box.
  5. Select Setup to set up supplies.
  6. With the Setup Supplies dialog box open, scan the bar-codes on the Beckman Coulter reagent container and hit Enter. The supply information is updated.
  7. Select OK to complete the setup, or Next to configure another supply.
  8. Monthly Shutdown/Startup will be done by instructors.
    • If needed by students, you will need to Log off/On

Logging Off

  1. Select the log off icon on the top right of the screen.
  2. On the log off screen, select the log off button.
  3. You are not logged off the System Manager.

Logging On

  1. On the log on screen, type in the Operator ID. (NSCC)
  2. Type in the password. (nscc1)
  3. Select the log on button or press Enter.
  4. You are now logged on to the System Manager.

Running QC

  1. Remove control tube(s) from the refrigerator and warm at AMBIENT TEMPERATURE for 10-15 minutes.
  2. After warming, mix by hand (one at a time) as follows:
    • Roll the tube slowly between the palms of the hands eight times in an upright position.
    • Invert the tube and slowly roll it between the palms eight times.
    • Gently invert the tube eight times.
  3. Inspect the tube contents for complete resuspension.
    • If necessary, repeat steps 2a to 2c until tube contents are uniformly suspended.
    • Do Not Over Mix.
    • DO NOT use any type of mechanical mixer.
  4. To put the instrument online press the Start button from the upper right corner.
  5. Process all the controls via cassette presentation.
  6. Load the specimens into the cassette, barcode facing out in the rack window.
  7. Place the cassettes into the input buffer to the right of the SPM.
    • The SPM automatically begins cycling the cassettes.
  8. Select the View Graphs button from the local navigation bar.
    • This allows the review of the Levey-Jennings Charts.
  9. Return to the data screen by selecting the View Data button.
  10. If the QC is acceptable, click ‘Reviewed by’ under the column.
    • If the QC is out notify the instructor before proceeding to run patients.

Running Patients

Running Patient Samples (Manual/Single Presentation) Mode

  1. Select the Single Tube presentation Icon.
  2. The single-tube Presentation Dialog Box will come up.
  3. Enter the Specimen Identifier. Use the MRN and your initials as the identifier.
  4. Press enter.
  5. A box will pop up indicating the instrument does not know what test to do on the patient. (no LIS) Just click OK.
  6. Verify the Specimen Identifier and Test request. Follow the prompts on the screen.
  7. CBC = Complete Blood Count, CD = CBC and Differential CDR = CBC, Differential and Reticulocyte.
    • Click the desired test then click ADD.
    • Once testing selected click SUBMIT.
  8. If a patient with the same identifier has been run before a box will pop up.
    • Click Rerun, then OK.
  9. Mix the Specimen.
  10. Place the specimen into the correct Single-tube position. (Cap-on or Cap-off).
    • Ensure it is pushed as far down as it can go.
    • Note: To process a sample collected in a micro-collection device, use single-tube presentation, and place the tube on the right-hand side of the cradle.
  11. Sample will be taken into analyzer, aspirated, and analyzed.
  12. Remove sample from instrument and analyze results.
