Standard – Failure to Cooperate
NSCC Housing requires that all students and their guests comply with reasonable requests or directives from NSCC Campus Housing staff, whether those requests are made verbally or in writing. This includes providing accurate identification and refraining from any actions that could conceal or falsify one’s identity.
Summary of Expectations:
- Students and guests must comply with all reasonable requests or directives made by Campus Housing staff, whether communicated verbally or in writing.
- Falsifying identification, concealing one’s identity (such as wearing masks to hide features), or providing false information is prohibited.
- Assisting others in using false identification or attempting to conceal their identity is considered a failure to cooperate and will be subject to sanctions as outlined in the Campus Housing Community Standards.
This policy ensures that the integrity of the NSCC Campus Housing community is maintained by fostering transparency and cooperation with staff. By adhering to these guidelines, students help create a safe and respectful living environment for everyone.
Examples of Breaches of Failure to Cooperate
The following are examples of violations that may occur in Campus Housing. Please note that these examples are fictitious and have been created by NSCC Housing & Student Life staff as hypotheticals, based on years of experience working in housing. They are not reflective of current student violations. Responses to violations may vary depending on the specific circumstances, including the severity of the behavior, the impact on others, and any prior violations. The details of each situation will be carefully considered before determining the appropriate action.
- A student host provides a guest with a room number that doesn’t belong to them to help the guest avoid the need to sign in with security. The guest, following the host’s direction, provides the false room number to try to avoid the sign-in process. The security staff notices the discrepancy, politely informs the guest of the error, and asks them to provide the correct information. The guest, along with the host, acknowledges the mistake and complies with the request. (Level 2 Violation)
- A student is found to be hiding a prohibited guest in their room, despite the guest having previously been banned from the property. When confronted by staff, the student refuses to provide accurate information or cooperate with the investigation, obstructing staff efforts to ensure the safety and security of the campus housing community. This serious breach of cooperation, combined with the presence of a banned individual, not only undermines the authority of housing staff but also jeopardizes the safety and well-being of the entire community. (Level 3 Violation)
