Garbage, Composting, Recycling & Sustainability

Sustainability is included in everything we do. It’s part of our curriculum learning activities. It’s a value we practice every day – from diverting waste on campus to encouraging active transportation and healthy living.

Sustainability is the right thing for us to do, and more importantly, we are preparing Nova Scotia for the fast-growing green economy. This extends to our Campus Housing Program. To make sure we live up to the high standard of waste reduction at NSCC, every room and suite will be equipped with a quad stream sorting system – four small bins (with handles) will be used for landfill waste, recyclables, paper/cardboard, and compost.

Student Requirement

  • Students will be expected to use the bins appropriately and transport the bins regularly to the common sorting locations in every Campus Housing location.
  • Recycling on Our Campus
  • There are recycling sorting stations located throughout the building. For batteries, electrical devices, and broken glass, there are specific locations/instructions for disposal.
  • Battery recycling is located near the vending machine on the 1st floor
  • Electrical device recycling may be available if you speak with Facilities directly
  • Broken glass should be boxed, labelled “broken glass” on all sides of the box and sealed securely with tape then placed in a garbage receptacle or given to a Facilities Assistant.
